Spending time outdoors with your baby or toddler is a wonderful way to nurture their curiosity and connection to the world around them. Fresh air and natural light support healthy sleep patterns and boosts mood, for both of you. So here are our top picks for getting outdoors with your little on in and around Somerset.
Looking for some walk inspiration in South Somerset? Amie from Amie's Outdoor Adventures has some fantastic routes for you to explore—perfect whether you're walking with a buggy, using a carrier, or have little legs in tow.
We went for. a walk around RSPB Ham Wall and it was really nice. It is very pram friendly plus it had a little tea & coffee van, toilets and a car park.

I love taking the kids to Stockhill woods. It's great for bike rides or just exploring the woodland.

We love walking down the Strawberry Line in Shepton Mallet which connects West Shepton Playing Fields to Collett Park and is all buggy friendly!

Playgrounds are a great way to spend an afternoon or to add a child-friendly element to day out. Here are a few of our favourite spots in Somerset (and slightly further afield!)
Technically in Wiltshire, but a lovely family day out is Bradford on Avon. You can walk along the canal path with a buggy / scooter, spotting barges and boats and then grab a coffee at the Coffee Barn which is located opposite the Tithe Barn. There is then a great playground right next door with a very popular sit on tractor. If you want to spend more time in Bradford on Avon there are then lots of lovely lunch spots too.
In the heart of Shepton Mallet, Collett Park has a great playground with plenty to do for all ages. There is also a cafe to grab a coffee and cake and toilets too. At the cafe you can also buy some duck food and head down to the pond to feed some feathery friends.
Just into Wiltshire, on the outskirts of Bradford on Avon, is the pretty village of Holt which has a great play park for pre-schoolers. Next door to the park is the Wild Herb at the Field Kitchen which serves barista coffee, pastries and deli-style lunches and is super casual for little people as well as having plenty of outdoor seating for sunny days. Holt also has the National Trust Courts Gardens so can be a great day out destination.
Right in the heart of Royal Victoria Park is a vast playground with play areas for a wide range of ages. There's a cafe in the park too or lots of places around the edge of the park to grab a coffee or a bite to eat. We like to have a play before a buggy nap, whilst we (try) to have a look around the shops or have a spot of lunch.
Victoria Park in Frome has a small but well equipped playground for all ages but for us the real winner is the sandpit. Located by the bandstand the sandpit is perfect for warmer days and packed with dumper trucks, spades, buckets etc for your little one to build (and knock down) their own sandy creations. There is also a small cafe in the park to grab a coffee and a snack.
